Archie, Festival Ballet Providence’s beloved Nutcracker dog is retiring. After 19 years and more than 125 performances in FBP’s annual holiday production of The Nutcracker, this adorable senior citizen (he’s a mere 92 in human years) has achieved stardom in his annual romp across the Providence Performing Arts Center stage and is ready for the next chapter.
Misha Djuric, FBP’s artistic director and Archie’s owner said, “Archie announced that he’s settling down to a life of luxury and long naps on pillows. He actually never expected to have become so famous and he’s very grateful for the fans who have supported him all these years.”
Now FBP is holding auditions for the next Nutcracker Dog to continue the annual tradition during the December performances. The casting call is open to all canines! Proud dog owners are invited to bring Bella, Bailey or Baxter for a once in a lifetime chance to become a real ballerina!
“Dog Auditions” will take place at FBP studios, 825 Hope Street, from noon-2 pm on Sunday December 2, 2018, during the Hope Street Holiday Stroll, for performances in December, 2018 and beyond. Judges will be professional FBP Company Dancers along with the Artistic Director and staff. Hopeful pets and their owners are invited come in from the cold and see if their furry friend has what it takes to be the next Nutcracker Dog!
The criteria are simple: Does your pup have an elegant prance? A regal coat of fur? A charming smile? Have you always wanted a peek behind-the-scenes at the life of a professional ballet dancer? Can he or she handle the paparazzi? It’s now or never!
Pre-registration is not required. Participation is free and open to any and all canine applicants. Participants can drop in to register and audition on the day of the event. All participants will receive a exclusive discount code for Nutcracker tickets.
