PCL’s Computer Builders Program will offer two, five-day summer programs at Mount Pleasant Library, providing youth ages 12-17 with an opportunity to build a real computer! July 10-14 and July 17-21, 1:30PM – 3:30PM

Created by PCL’s IT Manager, David Sok, the course features two hours of instruction a day. Students begin by learning about computer components and what they do and how they interact with one another. They learn about the hardware of different manufacturers and which parts are compatible between systems. What makes a computer a good one? How can you make it even better? The program concludes with the hands-on build of the new computer, with participants working in pairs to put together a single device. Participants receive a certificate of course completion and plaques are fitted on the computers stating the names of the builders and the date of assembly. Kids have the additional satisfaction of seeing their computers used by library patrons every time they visit the library.

The Computer Builders Program was a great success with the pilot group; there were NO course dropouts and many students were keen to come back and build another device. So don’t delay! Places are limited, sign up today!. To sign up or get more information, contact Emily LeMay  elemay@provcomlib.org  or Garrett Locke glocke@provcomlib.org or call 401-272-0106 x3. .
