Family Matters: Summer Daytrips with the Kids

It’s family daytrip season, and I’ve been inspired by fellow Rhode Island families who’ve shared their favorite summer activities. Here are three days of family fun and making memories this summer!

Kido Trip 1: Take a collecting walk on any journey

A favorite outing, whether far like Cape Cod or as close as Lippitt Park in Providence, is to take a walk with my family wherever we may be and look for stones and shells. We collect them as we go, then take them home, spread them out, select our favorites and record where they came from. Some kids may enjoy decorating them with pens, markers or paints. I have been collecting rocks and shells since I was a kid and then carried on this tradition with my husband pre-kids. The bowl of rocks – each one representing a different outing–have become part of our home, and bring back the happy memories of summer.
