Meet Wendy Lawton

Kidoinfo: What neighborhood do you live in?
Wendy Lawton (WL):
The Summit Neighborhood on Providence’s East Side

WL: West Lafayette, Indiana

Kidoinfo: How long have you been in Rhode Island?
WL: Holy cow. Seven years!

Kidoinfo: What is your current state of mind?
WL: Frazzled but happy.

Kidoinfo: Who’s in your family?
WL: The core is me and my seven-year-old Lucy. Then you add my mom and stepdad in New York, my sister and her husband and kids in Vermont, my brother in Texas, my sitter in Central Falls, my best friend in Pawtucket, and key peeps in Boston, Portland, Denver…it’s a Google Map posse.

Kidoinfo: What trait do you most admire about your family?
WL: Big hearts and good minds.

Kidoinfo: What is your favorite thing to do?
WL: Learn and laugh, simultaneously and often.

Kidoinfo: Where is your favorite place to hang out?
WL: In Providence, the Nature Lab at RISD.

Kidoinfo: Where would you most like to live?
WL: Toss-up between Provincetown, Little Compton and anywhere in Spain.

Kidoinfo: What do you like to do when you are not with your child?
WL: Make mischief.

Kidoinfo: What is the most overrated thing about parenthood?
WL: Patience.

Kidoinfo: What is your most treasured possession?
WL: I hate to call her a possession, but I treasure my daughter more than anything.

Kidoinfo: What superpower would you most like to have?
WL: Talking to animals, Aquaman-style.

Kidoinfo: Who is your favorite fictional mother or father?
WL: Atticus Finch.

Kidoinfo: What are you going to do now that you have answered these questions?
WL:
Have one more cup of tea and hit the sack.

  • Great interview and I can’t wait to meet Wendy. Her “holy cow!” response to how long she’s been in Providence got me thinking…I’ve been here just over six years and feel the same way (could it be THAT long??). That got me thinking about a discussion among parents circling around the decisions we make for our children (I’ve never been crazy about Providence but know it’s a good place to raise kids)…just thinking out loud here..and it’s probably just me wanting to commiserate with other parents who are still here when the pull to be elsewhere is strong…
