I recently asked Kidoinfo readers to share their favorite summertime activity. You shared many fun and fabulous ideas. No surprise that swimming in a pool or ocean appears numerous times. Food is another family favorite as well as simple no-hassle ideas such as going for a walk or bike ride. Read on, if you’re looking for ways to enjoy the last days of summer.

  • Take the free time and nice weather to explore places we have never been in New England.  And visit the beach of course!
  • Walking through the yard in the early morning (before work) with my youngest to “check on the garden” (surveying the progress/state of the plants and note the appearance of new blossoms, vegetables or insect activity).
  • Enjoying the yard with all the kids after everyone chips in with the “yardwork.”
  • Hiking locally and up north!
  • Last minute trips to Roger Williams Park carousel & playground.
  • Bike path outings anywhere (especially fond of planning rides out of Bristol Colt State Park).
  • Taking refuge from the heat in a cool movie theater.
  • Bike riding from our home in Pawtuxet Village to “Potato Head” park at the Roger Williams Zoo. We are 2 adults and 2 young boys (ages 2 and 4)– for our reward, we all sit and drink a new England lemonade once we arrive to catch our breath before we play!
  • Swimming in our neighbor’s pool!
  • Swimming in the ocean and crabbing.
  • Going to the beach together and throwing the baseball around afterward!
  • We have many! ACTSA camp was amazing. Coggeshall Farm teaches us to unplug. Cooking, eating, swimming, lounging with friends is restorative. But our favorite is watching our eggplant grow with my daughter, age 8.
  • Going to our friend summer cottage on Cape Cod. We go to the beach, bumper cars, trampolines, bouncy houses, the water slide park and the best part is a place called Sundae School for our favorite ice cream to top off the night!
  • As a family we enjoy experiencing all that Rhode Island has to offer!
Our local beaches and farmer’s markets are at the top of our list.

  • Ride the big waves at the ocean.
  • Picking fresh strawberries or blueberries and then baking yummy things with them for days.
  • Exploring our awesome neighborhood on the weekends!
  • First we risk life and limb walking around the “big dig” water project going on outside our house….as we head towards 7 Stars for an iced coffee for mom and dad, and a star cookie for the kid. Next, it’s down to the Farmer’s Market in Lippitt Park to check out the swings, pet a couple of dogs and pick up some of the best corn, homemade pickles and cheese that our state has to offer! From there it’s down the Boulevard so that mommy can oooh and ahhh over everyone’s gardens and bring home a few new ideas for our own.  And dad can quietly admire the two-car garages that he dreams of…Back up to Rochambeau, towards Hope…towards home….and it’s definately time for a nap…..
  • Lighting a fire, roasting marshmallows and going night swimming in the swimming pool!
  • Living in the Ocean State it’s everything “water”, like beach, kayaking, canoeing, pool etc. Maybe it’s because 3 out of 4 in our family are Aquariuses?
  • We love to go to Sachusett beach in Newport. (Second Beach). It is our favorite way to spend a warm summer day having fun and relaxing. I read my book and my son and grandson play in the water together.
  • Swimming and riding the bike path to Del’s!
  • Pick blueberries early in the morning, then make a pie, take a nap, and eat the pie!!
  • Our favorite summer activity is picking blueberries at Rocky Point Blueberries in Warwick Neck. YUM!
  • The kiddos favorite summer activity is swimming in their Gram’s pool!
  • Grilling dinner on our deck and then watching the kids play on the swing set until its time for bed.
  • Swimming at Roger Wheeler Beach in Narragansett.
  •  We are a family of 5 – so we try to save money and still have fun. We recently discovered the Brown Street playground in Providence – now my children’s favorite. My oldest son loves the gymnastics part and my youngest loves the huge sandbox with a wheelbarrow.
  • We love going to the beach and then hitting Mr. Lemon on our way home!
  • No doubt about it…favorite summer activity is going to Baker’s Beach and enjoying the waves, dunes and food!!!Feel free to share your own suggestions in the comments below.
