Brown Play School serves three and four year-olds in a two year preschool program. The central goals of the school are to instill in children a love of learning and to help them develop problem-solving skills and work habits that lay the foundation for future academic success and self-confidence.
The school is licensed for 26 children and has a Director, Head Teacher, an art teacher, and another teacher, who are with the children every day. We also have a woodworking teacher, a music teacher, and a yoga teacher who come on a regular basis to teach these special subjects.
The Brown Play School curriculum is inspired by the highly regarded philosophy of the schools in the Reggio Emilia region of Italy.
Hours are M-F 8:30-11:45am. Lunch bunch available on Tu,W&Th till 2pm

Stellar learning environment. We were seeking a preschool that was nurturing, encouraged physical activity (they have a great backyard!), offered lots of opportunities to be creative (full-time art teacher!), and provided high quality instruction. Brown Play School fits the bill. I unequivocally recommend this school.

This is my daughter’s second year at Brown Play School and we love it. There are so many centers, plus an art studio that the children can explore. They encourage many tools and ideas for the children in the centers to make up their own projects or centers and I feel because the children delegate their ideas and thoughts they really get enthralled in what they are learning. The teachers are warm and provide a comfortable atmosphere for the children (where my daughter who was always home with me felt like going to school was like going to her other home!) I would highly recommend this school to any parent and I will be sending my second child here when she’s 3!

I also live on the East side of Providence and the school being in Rumford was my only dislike before we looked at the school before we applied, but it takes less than 5 minutes to get there in the morning! Very easy and convenient location!

This is our son’s second year at Brown Play School and next year will be our daughter’s first. We were looking for a play-centric learning environment that instills a love of learning - we got it.
Wood working, yoga, art, greenhouse, play structures, and a thoughtful engaged team to pull it all together. Location is very close to Oak Hill, East Side, Fox Point, Seekonk and of course East Providence RI. Reggio-Emilia philosophy a big +.
