description: The historic Ladd Observatory opened in 1891 under the direction of Prof. Winslow Upton. A regular program of transit observations and timekeeping was started in 1893. Ladd Observatory is a historic landmark and a center for astronomy education in Providence. Open to the public free of charge on Tuesday evening 8:00pm-10:00pm, weather permitting (Please check the resource website prior to your visit).
