36 hours in Providence (with kids)

The New York Times travel section recently ran a feature detailing how to spend thirty-six hours in Providence. They listed many of my favorites–although now that I have kids, my thirty-six hours tend to include even more family-friendly places.

Here are my local additions:

1. Have coffee on the patio outside at Seven Stars on Hope Street, while the kids eat ginger star cookies and watch the birds.

2. Play at India Point Park at the end of Gano Street on the East Side. Great climbing structures, beautiful mosaic mural, lots of room to run around, and lovely off-shore breezes.Big Nazo

3. Make a trip to RISD’s Nature Lab on Waterman Street (near Benefit Street). You and your kids will get to see an amazing variety of specimens on display, including birds, bears, and bones.

4. Check out the window displays of the Big Nazo Lab downtown at 25 Fulton Street, across from Providence City Hall. Caution: the puppets may be scary for some kids.

5. Let your kids explore the massive stick sculpture by Patrick Dougherty on the Brown University campus. (The stick sculpture was removed in 2010.)

6. Eat pizza at Gepetto’s outside in DePasquale Square. Then stop off at the fountain and make a wish as you throw in a coin (like Karen said).

Read the Kidoinfo A-list to find more local favorites.
Tell Kidoinfo how you would spend some or all of 36 hours in Providence with your children.
