Tomorrow, April 29, 2011 is National Arbor Day. Share the The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein, or One Tree (Green Start series) by Innovative Kids with your children. These stories remind us at any age to be mindful of our trees.
We love getting to know parents in our community. In our Home Work series, we ask moms and dads how they juggle their work while raising kids, hoping to get some insight on how to better balance our own work/playtime while being introduced to our neighbors and their cool businesses. Today, meet Grace Welch is founder and president of patemm inc in Providence, Rhode Island.
Earth Day is just around the corner and in my house, the excitement almost reaches that of the December holiday season. April 22 marks the 42nd anniversary of the big day and whether or not you consider yourself a Greenie, a Once-ler, or more likely something in between, Earth Day is a wonderful time to engage your family in healthy, fun, and meaningful activities.
My favorite ways to celebrate Earth Day:
Earth Day is April 22, 2012.
• Keep our air clean – Walk or bike when you can, instead of driving.
• Save electricity – Turn off lights, appliances, and computers when not in use.
• Help the trees – Read books from the library. Recycle newspapers, magazines, and cardboard.
• Learn how to reuse and recycle the right way.
Activities to celebrate our environment:
Sin, known for it’s amazingly delicious and unusually creative cakes and deserts, located at 200 Allens Avenue in Providence, has expanded their custom cake shop to include a retail outlet. Sin, is now offering coffee, morning pastries, small items and ready made cakes to pick up or to enjoy in their newly renovated space. We can’t wait to check it out person.
