AS220 Foo Fest returns to downtown Providence on Saturday, August 13! Foo Fest is the family event of the year not to miss and reminds parents even though we may have children we can still take part in cool fun things happening in the city of Providence. This summer celebration of Rhode Island’s vibrant arts community will once again fence off and transform Empire Street into a lively party with twelve colorful hours including musical acts on two stages (indoor and outdoor), interactive art installations by community organizations and inspired individuals, activities for the young and young at heart, delicious local comestibles and more. Between 1pm and 1am, nearly two dozen musical acts will grace the stages at Foo Fest.

Southside Community Land Trust turns 30 this year and is planning to celebrate with families from all over Southern New England at their “30th Anniversary Birthday Party and Family Picnic” on July 17, 2011. The event will take place at Urban Edge Farm, SCLT’s 35-acre farm in Western Cranston, and feature birthday cake, beverages, games, and a music concert by Grammy award-winning musician Bill Harley. Guests are invited to bring their own picnic lunch to the event.

On July 7, Providence Children’s Museum debuts Discovery Studio, a vibrant new space for hands-on art and science exploration, where rotating programs inspire children’s open-ended investigation and creative expression.

An extension of the Museum’s exhibits, programs provide imaginative play and learning experiences that invite children to experiment with interesting materials, try new things, test their ideas, and make their own choices. Each week in Discovery Studio, families delve into a different theme with multiple activity stations and an intriguing selection of materials.

Program provides 5,000 free meals to Providence children at neighborhood recreation centers and parks.
