It’s a windy but sunny day in early fall, and my son and I slowly approach the gigantic spider web climbing net at Tuckertown Park in South Kingstown. My three year old is the tentative sort, and the conversation goes something like this:

“Come on, Devin. Let’s climb the spider web!”

“No, no, Mommy. I too little.”

“Nah, you’re not too little. You can do it.”

“I too scared, Mommy.”

“What are you scared of?”

“I scared I gonna fall.”

I live in New England for a reason. I love the change of seasons and my family is hoping we get some snow before Christmas.

Did you know if you wear your pj’s inside-out, it will snow?

My boys heard this from their friend back in preschool, who heard it from her sister who heard it from her teacher. Wow! We still do not know if this will work or not – we have no snow here yet.

So Many Uses: Vinegar

So Many Uses: Vinegar

Vinegar easily makes my “what would you bring to a desert island’ list – the practical version anyway. At less than four dollars for a gallon jug, white distilled vinegar offers a myriad of uses that can easily replace costly and harsh pesticides and chemicals.

Vinegar can be found throughout my home whether in its original jug in the basement, the filled spray bottle in the cupboard or the dainty cruet on the kitchen counter. Even more than its low-cost, I like the idea of cleaning with something that has no warning-paragraph. There is no fear from vinegar accidently getting sprayed on foods or tooth brushes, in fact, you can spray it on foods and toothbrushes.

With the December holidays right around the corner, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence have announced an effort to collect toys for underprivileged children. Many Rhode Island families, particularly those hit hard by the recession, are struggling to make ends meet and may be challenged to provide gifts for their children. In response, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence are asking the community to help make the holidays brighter for children in-need.
