April 22 marks the 42nd anniversary of the big day and whether or not you consider yourself a Greenie, a Once-ler, or more likely something in between, Earth Day is a wonderful time to engage your family in healthy, fun, and meaningful activities.

Imagine dozens of excited kids turned loose in a room filled with big blue foam blocks of all shapes and sizes. Using oversized cogs, wheels, spools and tubes, they create whimsical sculptures, construct castles and forts, and design vibrant vehicles that move. Joining curvy blocks with grooves, they form elaborate ramps and tracks and send balls rolling through. They stack, connect, design, configure and play – the possibilities are endless!

Museum visitors can join a week-long block party in celebration of Imagination Playground, all day Monday, April 16 to Sunday, April 22. Then look for the blocks on weekends through June; summer schedule will vary. Imagination Playground is free with $8.50 Museum admission; always free for Museum members.
Registration for Girls Rock! Rhode Island's third Girls Rock Camp opened today, on Sunday, April 1st. The camp will be held Monday, July 9 through Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Rhode Island Philharmonic’s Carter Center at 667 Waterman Ave., East Providence.

During the intensive, five-day camp experience, girls aged 11 to 18 take lessons in guitar, bass, drums, vocals or keyboards, form a band and collaborate on an original song. In addition, campers participate in workshops on topics such as media literacy, gender issues, body image, self-defense and screen printing. During the camp, girls will have the opportunity to work with professional female musicians who serve as both instructors and mentors. The culmination of camp is a showcase performance in which the new bands perform their original songs for a live audience of family and friends.

We love chocolate. Knowing that it's made locally and supports a good cause — even better.

Chocolateville, as it was known in colonial times, was once a thriving community that combined the best of entrepreneurship, employment, and productivity. Known today as Central Falls, this economically depressed city is home to over 19,000 residents living in one square mile of Rhode Island.

Years of financial and social struggle led to bankruptcy, making Central Falls the epitome of the failing American industrial city. Now Mike Ritz, head of Leadership Rhode Island, and others are trying to help save Central Falls — one chocolate bar at a time.
