Going to the Movies…2012 TIFF Kids International Film Festival

Just wanted to let you know that Kidoinfo will be taking a break from posting this week. We are taking a road trip to the TIFF Kids International Film Festival — first time attending a festival other than our beloved Providence Children’s Film Festival. Part vacation (fueling our family’s film passion) and part work as we will be interviewing people in the industry and previewing films for the 2013 Providence Children’s Film Festival.

While we’re gone, check out…

My Favorite Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

My Favorite Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

Earth Day is just around the corner and in my house, the excitement almost reaches that of the December holiday season. April 22 marks the 42nd anniversary of the big day and whether or not you consider yourself a Greenie, a Once-ler, or more likely something in between, Earth Day is a wonderful time to engage your family in healthy, fun, and meaningful activities.

My favorite ways to celebrate Earth Day:

Family Matters: Make every Day Earth Day 2012!

Earth Day is April 22, 2012.

• Keep our air clean – Walk or bike when you can, instead of driving.
• Save electricity – Turn off lights, appliances, and computers when not in use.
• Help the trees – Read books from the library. Recycle newspapers, magazines, and cardboard.
• Learn how to reuse and recycle the right way.

Activities to celebrate our environment:

Introducing Imagination Playground

Introducing Imagination Playground

Imagine dozens of excited kids turned loose in a room filled with big blue foam blocks of all shapes and sizes. Using oversized cogs, wheels, spools and tubes, they create whimsical sculptures, construct castles and forts, and design vibrant vehicles that move. Joining curvy blocks with grooves, they form elaborate ramps and tracks and send balls rolling through. They stack, connect, design, configure and play – the possibilities are endless!

Museum visitors can join a week-long block party in celebration of Imagination Playground, all day Monday, April 16 to Sunday, April 22. Then look for the blocks on weekends through June; summer schedule will vary. Imagination Playground is free with $8.50 Museum admission; always free for Museum members.
