Children’s Book Review: IT’S A BOOK by Lane Smith
The Wall Street Journal included IT’S A BOOK by Lane Smith as a summer must read for kids. Although not due out until August I thought it very timely to our recent conversation about what it means to raise kids in a digital world.
The publisher says IT’S A BOOK is “playful and lighthearted with a subversive twist that is signature Lane Smith” and calls this book a “manifesto on behalf of print in the digital age.” The book’s beautiful full page illustrations with simple text is the story of two animals — a tech-obsessed donkey and a literary-minded monkey — and their dialogue around a rectangular object.

About Lane Smith
My boys and I love Lane Smith. He is the author and illustrator of the JOHN, PAUL, GEORGE & BEN and MADAM PRESIDENT. He has also collaborated with Jon Scieszka on THE TRUE STORY OF THE THREE LITTLE PIGS, MATH CURSE, and THE STINKY CHEESE MAN, for which he received a Caldecott Honor award. He has also illustrated books by Dr. Seuss, Jack Prelutsky, Florence Parry Heide, and Roald Dahl.
