Easy DIY Project: Fun Fortress Flags

[ 2 ] 8.24.2011 |

Any pile of sand can be magically transformed to castle status with the addition of a small flag. Make a bunch and pack them in your beach bag to add pops of color to your day in the sun.

Materials
Waterproof material such as a shopping bag or oil cloth
Wooden toothpicks
Glue stick
Sharp scissors

How-to
Snip two angles (triangle) at the hard crease of a shopping bag
Open into a diamond shape and apply glue to the inside
Insert a toothpick along the crease and fold
Adjust glued edges into a flag shape, smooth and allow to dry

Build a sandcastle and add your flags to the tops or turrets for a fortress worth protecting or royalty-ready palace by the sea.

Other fun uses to turn your beach outing into a banner day

  • Build a moat — Make a boat: Place a ball of Play-Doh inside an open clam shell; secure flag “pole” into dough. Now your castle has a sailboat.
  • Serve up style: Use to top sandwiches.
  • Stuck inside? Build with baking soda instead.

Great idea! Now just add some plastic soldiers (or farmers!) to get things really hoppin’!
