FirstWorks Presents Heather Henson and Ibex Puppetry-A Performance Spectacle of Large-Scale Puppets, Soaring Kites and Aerial Artistry

cof9Heather Henson, daughter of beloved puppetry pioneer and Muppets creator Jim Henson, along with her Ibex Puppetry production company will perform their newest spectacle of elegant, large-scale puppets, soaring kites and aerial artistry in Providence on April 7. Henson will also introduce her latest handpicked selection of puppet film shorts showcasing new visions by independent artists during a FirstWorks film screening and artist talk on April 4.

Henson will introduce the newest volume in her ongoing film anthology: Handmade Puppet Dreams vol. 5, a showcase of the fresh voices of independent puppeteers who embrace film as their medium for individual expression. The artists highlighted in Handmade Puppet Dreams build their visions and breathe life into their dreams while exploring a spectrum of live-action puppetry styles. The screening, to be followed by an artist talk with Heather Henson.

Celebration of Flight at the Detroit Institute of Art

Performance and Kite Building Workshop
Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 4:00 PM. Pre-show kite-building workshop will begin at 2:30 PM.
RISD Auditorium, Providence

Heather Henson and Ibex Puppetry will perform Celebration of Flight, an all-ages performance celebrating the Earth’s changing seasons and enchanting creatures in Providence Giant dragonflies, cranes, and the spirits of the air will descend to earth when called by drums and noisemakers of the audience. Audience members will play music, fly kites, and dance along with the creatures that fill our sky.
Advance tickets: $20 adult / $10 children 12 and under (for purchases at door add $5). Pre-registration is required for the workshop. This performance is supported in part by National Grid—“Here with you, here for you.”  For tickets and information visit first-works.org or call 401-421-4278.
