Erin, you verbalize perfectly what real parenting is. Thanks for your honesty—raising kids is hard and we all have to figure out what works for us.

I know I had to let go of “perfect parenting” very early on with the birth of my twins and I did what I could just to get them to sleep at the same time and “eek” a little time for myself and my mom friends just to keep my sanity.

All of those perfect parent offenses and pre-wrapped american cheese slices too. Giving tootsie pops as rewards or silencers. Letting the kids wear camouflage, etc.

What a good piece, Erin. You articulate so many things about parenting that I agree with, but never really reflected upon.

I was never as “perfect” as an all-natural mom (gave up cloth diapers within a few months, and wasn’t even washing them myself), but I definitely feel happier now that I’ve let some of my lovely organic parenting snobberies go.

Wii, Storyland, pre-made lemonade–the list of things I do now that would have offended my earlier mother self goes on & on.
