The Providence Public Library Children’s Room has big plans for 2012, transforming into the new Children’s Discovery Library – The Story Starts Here. Designed in partnership with Providence Children’s Museum to offer a captivating and enriching environment, the artfully re-imagined Children’s Discovery Library will be Rhode Island’s latest early literacy / learning destination, free and open to all of our young children, families and caregivers. Stay tuned for details about the room and grand opening celebration planned on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Providence Public Library in downtown Providence.
While the current Children’s Room is officially “under construction” from December 12, 2011 through January 27, 2012, the librarians will provide regular children’s services, including access to books. Books currently in the room collection will be relocated within the PPL building and accessible with librarian help. A portion of the normal room collection will be directly accessible to parents/children in the Young Adult (YA) Room located across the Lobby and will be continually augmented by the Library’s larger collection. There will be some toys and books available for young children in YA room.
All of the Library’s regular programs (Cradle to Crayons, Lapsit Story Times, and Pajama Story Time) will be ongoing in alternate locations in the Library throughout the new Library renovation period. All of these programs are on break during the week after Christmas…and will start up again January 3, 2012.
