It’s about more than just books when you visit a Story Time at the Providence Public Library! Anne Kilkenny, the Library’s Early Childhood Services Coordinator and Children’s Librarian uses her 15 years of preschool and education experience along with a love for books to create an interactive early literacy environment. Providence Public Library offers free story times for infants, toddlers and preschoolers as well as evening and weekend drop-in times for all ages.

IMG_2987My family attends Cradle to Crayons, the story time for 1-3 year olds. With nooks and crannies throughout the Chace Children’s Discovery Library, children have an opportunity to explore, play and visit with friends all before the story begins. As we walk through the door, Anne and her assistants great us by name. Learning and play stations are set up among the many shelves of books in this section of the library. Caden loves fishing for letters with fellow patrons and Bella crawls around the floor banging on instruments. I enjoy the security of knowing that this area is specifically for families with small children. The family bathroom is located just outside the children’s library and there is a Koala changing station.

Part of what makes the Chace Children’s Discovery Library at the Providence Public Library so special is that it was developed in collaboration with Providence Children’s Museum. The space is filled with quilted letter magnets, fun mirrors for little ones, animal puppets, an indoor tree and more!

So if you are looking for a fun, interactive learning place to allow your child’s imagination to soar, visit The Chace Children’s Discovery Library located at the Providence Public Library in Downtown Providence. See you there!

  • Hi Anisa.
Do you know if there are any “message board” type resources for area school teachers? I am a collections specialist in the process of deaccessioning some of the natural history specimens at our institution and would like to give local school teachers “first dibs” on the items (for free)! Mostly there are rocks and minerals up for grabs. Any info you have on how I can get the word out would be great.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Hats off to the exhibit team for creating a wonderfully inviting cozy space for the whole family! Kudos!
