Tips for Family Weekend Fun
Every week on GoLocalProv I share tips on how families can make the most of their weekend — including helpful hints that make parenting easier and connecting you to great local happenings.
This week’s list:
Kido Tip 1. Make the Carousel Circuit.
Rhode Island is home to five carousels. Many play a significant role in carousel history. Price varies by location, some starting at $1 per ride. The Crescent Park Carousel recently closed for renovation will reopen this weekend with a grand opening celebration! Help your kids make a Carousel Passport Book with list or drawing of all the carousels. Plan to visit them all. Sticker or stamp the book after every visit.
Kido Tip 2. Have a Harry Potter Celebration.
Author J.K. Rowling’s birthday is July 31 as well as the character Harry Potter from her acclaimed book series. Celebrate the wizarding world with your kids; read the books, watch a film, dress in costume, take a walk in an “enchanted forest” to find sticks for wands. Turn your walk into a search for herbs and plants to be used in magic spells and potions or turn your trip into a hunt for he-who-can’t-be-named, Afterwards head home or to a sweet shop for for some treats like chocolate frogs and butterbeer!
Kido Tip 3. Shop back-to-school deals.

I think the carousel in Slater Park is only 25c per ride. (or used to be!)
