Anyone else with more than one kid have a tinge of guilt for not keeping up with the "firsts" as well as the "first's firsts"? Just me?

My daughter's first year of life is highly documented in photographs, journal, and baby book. My son, born two years later, not so much. ("First steps...sometime in March, 2005")

I must have been too busy pulling my daughter out of the litter box and away from electrical fixtures.

The one thing I made sure I did for both kids was to set up a little photo shoot on their "monthly birthday" for the first year, and tuck my favorite photo into an special album. Babies grow so much in the first year, and you don't get those chubby cheeks back. I cherish those two little albums, and don't sweat the details that I didn't record.

for each of my boys, my sister bought me a blank baby calendar. i kept the calendar in their room and would write things on it daily. no need to log-on or even take a book of the shelf. it helped me not only keep track of say, dr's visits, but of the smallest details of our days. first trips to the park, visits from friends. now that i am into blogging, i'm sure i would have a baby blog for family but there's nothing as easy as a simple calendar. easy to pack away later, too.

I have journals from my kids' baby years--obsessing about their first jibber jabber, how often they poo, etc. and I LOVE reading them. Now that I use facebook so often, I barely write in a journal--I have to force myself to remember to write down funny things that happen or just descriptions of what the kids are like...my father-in-law tells me having these to re-read will be key in making it through the teen years.

If I were to have a baby this year, I'm sure I'd have a baby blog. But a composition book is a treasure too.
