Roger Williams Park Zoo’s Animal Birthday Party Club is returning this year with five fun animal birthdays from May through August. Sponsored by Washington Trust and Friendly’s, the Animal Birthday Party Club is offering kids who join in the celebrations at the Zoo a chance to win a Zoofari birthday party of their own, or even an up-close giraffe encounter.  The first animal birthday celebration will be held on Saturday, May 5 in honor of Thunder, Phantom, and Signal, the African wild dogs.

Visitors to the wild dog’s birthday celebration (as well as the next two animal birthday celebrations to follow) can pick up an Animal Birthday Party Club card at the birthday animal’s exhibit, and then have it stamped at each of the five animal birthday celebrations they attend.  Those who collect three stamps will be entered in a drawing to win a Zoofari birthday party of their own at the Zoo during the 2013 season. If the child’s birthday falls outside of the Zoo’s birthday party season (April — October) the prize will be a coupon for four children to the Zoo’s Visit with Santa or the Visit with the Easter Bunny in addition to a Zoo-themed gift basket. Those who collect stamps at all five of the animal birthday celebrations will also be entered to win a behind the scenes elephant encounter.

Animal birthday celebrations will be held on:

  • Saturday, May 5 for Thunder, Phantom, and Signal, the African wild dogs
  • Saturday, June 23 for Alice, Kate, and Ginny, the elephants
  • Monday, July 09 for the Jaffa Prince, the Masai giraffe who was born at the Zoo in 2010
  • Monday, July 16 for Spirit and Glory, the bald eagles
  • Wednesday, August 8 for Amber, a Masai giraffe

Activities at all five celebrations will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  In addition to having their Animal Birthday Party Club card stamped, families can enjoy watching each birthday animal receive a special birthday “cake” enrichment.  Kids can also take part in some fun party games, help to create a zoo-inspired piece of art for the birthday animals and enjoy music and other entertainment.

For more information about the Animal Birthday Party Club and animal birthday celebrations, visit www.rwpzoo.org.  Roger Williams Park Zoo is open year ‘round, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.  Admission is $14.95 for adults and $9.95 for children (ages 3 — 12) and $12.95 for Seniors (ages 62+). Children under 3 and Zoo members are admitted free.
