Every Thursday during the Summer from 10:30 AM — 12:30 PM
Burnside Park, Downtown Providence, Rhode Island (Map it)

Kidoinfo and Greater Kennedy Plaza are partnering for a 3rd year to create FREE weekly summer events for families in downtown Providence. Storytime invites families to bring a blanket and enjoy different storytellers under the trees near the fountain in Burnside Park adjacent to Kennedy plaza. Kidoinfo features at least one story each Thursday morning from a local Rhode Island author, illustrator or storyteller followed by fun interactive activities for children.

This year following Storytime, the new program Art in the Park encourages children to make and participate in their own storytelling magic through art. Created by Rhode Island author and illustrator, Alison Paul, this year’s summer-long project, “Providence in the Purple Crayon” is inspired by the classic children’s book Harold and the Purple Crayon. Children are invited to let their imaginations run wild, as they "draw" their world — by the end of the summer creating a life-sized interactive set featuring a host of Providence icons, from our city skyline to Rhode Island Red. Children get a chance to work with different guest artists and explore a range of mediums from paint to collage — so come to one or come to all — and dress to get messy!

SPONSORS: City of Providence, The Dept. of Arts Culture & Tourism, Greater Kennedy Plaza, Downtown Providence Parks Conservancy, Citizens Bank, Providence Tourism Council, RIPTA, RISCA, Providence Phoenix, Meeting Street, Seven Stars, Gordon School, Moses Brown, Ocean State Montessori, Jewish Community Day School of Rhode Island, The RISD Museum, and Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island.

Story hours are a great way to discover new books with your child. Oftentimes kids love to hear their favorites over and over. Find them at the local library. When we want to a buy a copy for our own personal collection, we love to support local bookstores.

Here’s a list of some of our favorites:
