101 Uses: BabyLegs Has Kids Covered

BabyLegs on Kid o InfoBy Maura Keating

BabyLegs are a magic elixir of fashion and function for sleepers, crawlers, walkers, and beyond. There are so many ways to wear and use Babylegs that it is hard not to sound like an infomercial. I am tempted to include a bullet point list, but since this isn’t PowerPoint, I’ll refrain.

First, there are the obvious uses and the reasons why BabyLegs have become a daily phenomenon in our house. Just like the leg warmers you adored in the Eighties, BabyLegs keep your little one’s legs (or arms) toasty, while the range of colors and patterns keep you happy. My husband worried that our son would look strange in leg warmers (think Jennifer Beals in Flashdance) but BabyLegs won’t give you Flashdance flashbacks.

A pair of BabyLegs enables Baby to show off those cute onesies without catching cold. A crawling spring or summer Baby will be glad to have some protection against scuffed knees. Potty training in the fall or winter? BabyLegs keep legs warm without needing to be pulled up or down. Does your daughter wear dresses, without exception? My friend’s daughter believes that pants are for tomboys and tights are itchy, but she’ll wear BabyLegs. You can stay longer at the playground on chilly spring days with an extra layer. If you stop at a café on the way home, you can slip off the Babylegs before Baby overheats. However, my absolute favorite use for BabyLegs is to create a warm layer between socks and pants when Baby is in the carrier or the stroller. However we transport my son when it’s cold, his pants ride up, exposing his little legs to all sorts of weather. BabyLegs cover the gap.

One size fits most, with a recommended age range of birth to ten years. Finally, I found something for my son that won’t need to get packed away after three months of use. Regular BabyLegs are mostly cotton, with a touch of polyester and spandex for fit and stretch. Other varieties include SuperSoft BabyLegs (made of 100% polyester) and a new organic line made of 100% cotton. The package recommends hand washing and for the most part, that’s what we’ve done. On harried days, I have used a lingerie bag to wash my BabyLegs in the gentle cycle and they still look good. I really wish that I could throw BabyLegs in with the regular wash, but I love them too much to lose them, so I play it safe. My son enjoys wearing his BabyLegs, especially since he associates them with outside play. His legs are dimpled with baby fat and the BabyLegs sometimes leave a faint red mark on his thighs. I’m not worried, though, because if they were too tight or uncomfortable, he would refuse to wear them. Although my toddler’s vocabulary is limited, he has no problem expressing his opinion.

There is so much in a baby’s life that is fleeting. There are so many things that we buy for one use and then throw it away, pack it away, give it away… I’ll be glad to have BabyLegs around for a while. And when my son is done with them, my arms get cold too.

The Details: BabyLegs, $12 and up; check the store locator to find BabyLegs at a store near you.

CONTEST: We are giving away TWO pairs of BabyLegs. Enter to win one pair by answering the question, “How do you plan to use your BabyLegs?” (Check the BabyLegs website for some great ideas.)  CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.

  • I plan on using these legs in the playground. I live in the city and there’s not a lot of outside soft grassy places to play. My baby needs some extra knee coverage.

  • I love Babylegs! My 10m son wears them with onesies while he’s booking around`d the house and yard and my 2yo wears them with T’s to keep his arms warm – we’d love to win!

  • I would use them for my little scooter, soon to be crawler. But I saw that someone said when you are wearing your baby so his legs dont get cold. That is a great idea too!

  • We love BLs here in our house. DD is close to potty training age so I think they will be perfect for nakey-bottom time while it’s still a little nippy here.

  • i have wanted these for so long. i tried to make my own but they dont work so well. i would use them under dresses for my hippie girl

  • My 10 month old crawls like crazy and these will help cushion her knees especially when she decides to crawl outside.

  • I have a 6 week old son and I love the footless sleepers for him to sleep in. The problem is that he doesn’t like to be swaddled and his legs get cold. This would eliminate the problem! THANKS so much!!

  • I plan to use them for the obvious reason–keep my little guy warm in cold wintry chicago…BUT the real reason I’d use them is to prove to my dear hubby that leg warmers ARE NOT just for girls!! 🙂

  • “We cook with BabyLegs on our arms to protect against burns and splatter”, this would be very useful in our household.

  • I want to use them under my kids’ jeans that have tears in the knee for a bit of a “Punk” look (and to get some extra wear from the jeans)

  • Our house is mostly hard floors, so it probably isn’t very comfortable for my little crawler to get around. I’d love to make her explorations a little more cozy.

  • I will use them as warmers for my 15 month old, then on my 13 week old (when she learns to crawl), the I will pass them on to my best friends son (when he learns to crawl, he’s not born yet.)

Then if they are still “OK” then I will fill them with padding, and fill them with scented dried herbs, some essential oil scents, and sew the ends together, giving the girls their own long pillows. (for playtime!)

  • My son is a tall toddler and he ALWAYS has a gap between his pants and his socks… these would be terrific to help with that. Right now I just keep pulling down his pants a bit and hiking up the socks, but it never lasts long.

  • I plan to use them for my baby girl. When she’s in her carrier, her pants ride up & she needs a bit more coverage!

  • I would use them on my niece under skirts when it’s chilly because diaper changing with tights is such a hassle!

  • babylegs on calvin’s legs for anti-rug burns for crawl time. also, keep his legs warm while wearing a t-shirt once he starts getting a little more mobile…we’re doing the elimination communication thing. after he grows out of ’em, i’ll wear ’em on my arms or ankles in the winter time!

  • I LOVE my babylegs! Up North in MN it feels like perpetual winter–still! These are a great under layer to prevent the chilly ankles when my son’s pants come up when I carry him. I could use a pair for every day of the week! So, I guess I use them sort of as long underwear! 😉

  • these would be great for my son. We have linoleum in the kitchen (his favorite room for playing) and it gets really cold. These would be great for the warmer weather when we have the a/c on and the floor is cold. Or in the winter, when we have the heat on, and yet, the floor is still cold.

  • My little guy will probably be crawling this summer, so it will be nice to put Baby Legs on him, so he doesn’t get rug burns.

  • i love babylegs! my daughter wears them with skirts when it’s too cold to go without them, and then she doesn’t slip on the floor when we get home and take her shoes off. i use them for my son under his pants for an extra layer of warmth and to protect those inches of skin that are exposed when he’s on the swings!

  • We use BabyLegs under shorts and skirts when the air is just a bit chilly. We also use them as makeshift, and ADORABLE, sleeves. They’re so versitile and the patterns are so beautiful!

  • I wear my five month old baby (Ergo usually) and her little pants ride up and her legs get cold so I would put these on her under her clothes to keep her little legs warm!

  • We already use them. My boy is skinny and either his pants are too big in the waist or too short. So we wear the too short ones, pair them with BabyLegs, and he’s good to go. His pants don’t fall down AND he’s stylish! We love them.

  • Well, considering that Spring STILL hasn’t arrived here in windy Idaho, I’m sure that those baby legs would come in handy for both of my children. I would definitely use them under their skirts, pants, and even shorts!

  • I would use them to keep my son’s lower legs warm when his pants ride up constantly. And of course the side effect would be that he looks totally cool!

  • My little one is just getting ideas about crawling, so I would use Baby Legs to keep her knees from getting hurt.

  • Hello! I would love to try these with my daughter under skirts and dresses and I think they’d be great for spring to slip on her arms if it gets cold when we’re outside in t-shirts (a lot smaller to tote than a jacket).

  • I would use them for under jeans in the winter time. and as leg warmers around the house, since my son doesnt like to wear pants. 🙂

  • Sounds horrible, but I steal my daughters babylegs when I run 5k’s. They keep my arms warm with out being to big or too bulky, if I get warm, I can push them down so they just cover my fingers! Love them!

  • Definitely for the crawling – my 11 month old is EVERYWHERE on her knees, and by the end of the day they get red! The babylegs would also be perfect for wearing dresses in the fall/winter!

  • How would we NOT wear them? The fun part is, everyone in the family can wear them… on arms, on legs, mix and match. We LOVE babylegs!! Fingers crossed!

  • I will use my baby legs on my daughter to help block her poor legs from the horrible Nebraska wind and look cute while doing it! Thanks!

  • My baby is so sensitive, she’s in cloth diapers and has to be changed as soon as she’s wet. It’s easiest to tell if she doesn’t have a cover on so I can see as soon as the diaper gets wet. This means of course she can’t wear pants or they’d get wet! So she’d be wearing this pair every day to keep her little legs warm! 🙂

  • We use ours for everything, as legwarmers in the dead of winter under pants (also help keep socks on), as knee covers for crawling & with skirts to look like tights. We LOVE them!!!

  • Hi there,
I would use Baby Legs instead of pants on days where the weather is “on” and “off”. Here in the Pacific Northwest, we get a lot of unpredictible weather.

  • I would use them as knee protectors and leg warmers.I think they would keep my babys knees from getting all roughed up. Thanks
    for the giveaway!

  • Well, my little girl is starting to crawl and she needs them to cover her legs. I would also use them when we’re out in the stroller. Thanks for the great give away!

  • Throw them in the wash! What busy mom has time to hand wash anything? Mine go in the washer and dryer no problemo.

  • You can wear them on your arms – check the website for photos on how to wear BabyLegs. Wish my boys had them when they were in strollers!

  • I love these! I’ve never seen them.

Ibex makes things like this for adults–for the arms–maybe I could wear babylegs on my arms?
