Love a bargain? Looking for good quality, lightly used kids’ (or adults’) clothes? Enjoy shopping locally and supporting local initiatives? Then mark your calendar and plan to visit the upcoming Wheeler School Clothing Sale, April 15-17. This wildly popular 62 year-old community institution benefits every “body.”
This three-day event held in the gymnasium at Wheeler School has long been recognized as a great opportunity to pick up lightly used high quality clothing, sporting equipment, electronics and more, for the entire family. Â There is also typically a sizable selection of high-quality new designer clothing and house wares donated by local retailers. Â These goods are collected during the course of the school year and pre-sorted to ensure that only the best and latest goods are available at the sale. Â For years, my mother-in-law always counted on the sale to pick up a ‘new” blue blazer for my young brother-in-law. Â Who wants to spend top dollar on an item that a child might wear only once or twice before he grows out of it?
The proceeds from the sale are used to support a variety of needs, from financial aid funds for students, to the Summerbridge Program for Providence Public Middle School students. Goods that aren’t purchased during the sale are donated to a number of local non-profit shelters and agencies.

Thanks for sharing about this great event! It’s in my calendar =) Will definitely share it with other families I know.
Looks like Friday am is the soonest I can attend. Thursday is booked with Robotics, school dance and cubscouts!
Oooh, can’t wait—this will be my first year! Going Thursday afternoon, since that is when I’ll be passing through the area, so wish me luck with two boys and the crowds!
I have seen a Jimmy Choo bag in the Boutique and my daughter got her dresses for those all important Middle School dances at past Sales!
Friday morning is the best time to shop b/c the crowds come in Thursday afternoon and evening and it’s pretty calm on Friday am.
Yes, it’s fabulous for adult clothing. My husband even got a fabulous high end blazer last year for that obligatory wedding outfit for ($25!!!!). They also have lots of women’s items and a special boutique area for the real steals. Sporting goods, books, toys and accessories are also great finds, and you never know what you will find in the very extensive White Elephant area which this year includes many new items from Newport’s Spring Fever home and garden shop. Hope to see you there!
Hang on — there’s clothes for GROWN-UPS? I’ve avoided the sale for years thinking it was just kids’ stuff — that, and I figured it would be a complete zoo. Any recommendations for when to go to avoid the zoo thing?
The kids clothes are truly a bargain…huge selection and very nice quality…not to mention the Nanette Lepore dress and Burberry raincoat that I found two years ago!
awesome photo!
my sister just e-mailed me about this. we go every year and have so much fun!
