Bug Out: The Hedvig Bourbon Charlotte Bug Net

Charlotte-Bfstmainovr2By Maura Keating

It’s mosquito season, but I’m not worried. This year, I’ve got it covered. The Charlotte Bug Net by Hedvig Bourbon is a beautiful fix for an ugly problem. A fine net of mosquito-proof mesh stretches over the canopy of your stroller or car seat to protect Baby’s sensitive skin from unwanted invaders. The canopy keeps the bug net from falling onto Baby. Orange and purple butterflies or green and blue dragonflies float above a cloud of white or black mesh. The bug net’s designer, Hedvig Bourbon, hand-sews the bug nets herself, adding a spray of beautiful, colorful felt bugs to an otherwise utilitarian accessory.

The Charlotte Bug Net’s mesh fabric keeps creepy-flying-crawlies out, but Baby still rides with an unobstructed view. The mesh fabric is soft, and my son likes to run his hands along the sides when we are walking. As an extra bonus, the Bug Net also helps keep errant toys, books, and sippy cups inside the stroller. A durable elastic hem stretches to fit most strollers, prams, carriers, and car seats with canopies. I tested the Charlotte Bug Net on a wide variety of strollers with different kinds of hoods, from oversize travel systems to svelte umbrella strollers. The Charlotte Bug Net provided head-to-toe coverage on every stroller that I tested. The Charlotte Bug Net’s generous size might even work with Pack ’n Plays and bouncy seats with sun shades, but since I don’t own either product, I was not able to test the theory.

The Charlotte Bug Net folds up nicely and fits into an included carrying bag. The small cloth bag cinches closed with a drawstring and can be tossed into a diaper bag for easy access. The bag is small enough to fit into many stroller pockets if you’re lucky enough to have one. The storage bag is decorated with a matching felt bug to remind you what is inside and what it helps you keep out.

With its appliquéd insects, the Charlotte Bug Net is a charming accessory for any stroller. There will be no fears of itchy nights–no more calamine lotion or oatmeal baths. This summer, Baby can ride and relax in style and in safety. The bugs stay out where they belong–as harmless decoration.

Hedvig Bourbon makes a line of accessories for life on the go with Baby–from diaper bags to stroller liners. Each item in the line is named after Bourbon’s son’s playmates. I love the clean lines, great colors, and thoughtful details that are incorporated into each product.
