New York Times Bestselling Author Gregory Funaro Returns to His Hometown of Cranston for Reading & Book Signing for his new book Watch Hallow @ Barrington Books Garden City
Mar 8 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Barrington Books is pleased to host New York Times Bestselling young readers author Gregory Funaro for a reading and book singing for his new book Watch Hallow on Friday, March 8th 6pm-7:30pm at 176 Hillside Rd., Cranston. Gregory Funaro grew up in Cranston, Rhode Island, and wrote his first story, The Ghost in the Window, in the fourth grade. He considers this to be his finest work, but unfortunately it has been lost to time.
In his new book Watch Hallow, Funaro brings us into a world where magic exists, monsters roam in the shadows, and wooden animals come to life.
Deep within the enchanted woods in the town of Watch Hollow stands the once-grand Blackford House, whose halls hold a magical secret: a giant cuckoo clock that does much more than tell time. But when the clock’s gears cease to turn, an evil presence lurking among the trees begins to come out of the shadows. When Lucy and Oliver Tinker arrive in Watch Hollow, they have no idea that anything is wrong. A mysterious stranger has made their father an offer that’s too good for him to refuse. All Mr. Tinker needs to do is fix the clock at Blackford House and fistfuls of gold coins are his to keep. It doesn’t take long, however, for the children to realize that there is more to Blackford House than meets the eye. And before they can entirely understand the strange world they’ve stumbled into, Lucy and Oliver must join forces with a host of magical clock animals to defeat the Garr—a vicious monster that not only wants Blackford House for itself, but also seeks to destroy everything the Tinkers hold dear.
Greg majored in theatre at the University of New Hampshire, and after various acting gigs, received his AM in Theatre Arts from Brown University and an MFA in Acting from the FSU/Asolo Conservatory. He began his literary career writing thrillers for adults, but switched to children’s books after the birth of his daughter. His first book, ALISTAIR GRIM’S ODDITORIUM, was a New York Times best seller and his second, ALISTAIR GRIM’S ODD AQUATICUM, received a Kirkus STARRED review.

NY Times Best Selling Author Jacqueline Woodson Talk & Book Signing @ Barrington Books Garden City
Jun 6 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Barrington Books is pleased to host award winning New York Times best-selling author Jacqueline Woodson for a conversation and book signing on Thursday, June 6th at 7pm at 176 Hillside Rd. Cranston. Peter Quesnel, Juanita Sanchez High School Librarian will be the moderator/conversationalist with Jacqueline Woodson. This is a ticketed event. The $10 ticket can be applied toward the purchase of a Woodson book of your choice, which will be available at the event. For tickets, either call 432-7222 or visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/author-jacqueline-woodson-talk-and-book-signing-tickets-61740927777

Jacqueline Woodson, four-time Newbery Honor Medalist, Coretta Scott King Book Award-winner, and National Book Award Winner for her memoir-in-verse, Brown Girl Dreaming, and the 6th National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature is traveling nationwide discussing her theme, “READING = HOPE x CHANGE (What’s Your Equation?),” which encourages young people to think about – and beyond – the moment we’re living in, the power they possess, and the impact reading can have on showing them ways in which they can create the hope and the change they want to see in the world.

“I think the work ahead of me is challenging,” says Jacqueline Woodson, “I don’t believe there are ‘struggling’ readers, ‘advanced’ readers or ‘non’ readers. I’d love to walk away from my two years as Ambassador with the qualifiers gone and young people able to see themselves beyond stigma or oft-times debilitating praise. Martin Luther King Jr. said people should not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. In that regard, I think young people should not be judged by the level of their reading but by the way a book makes them think and feel. By the way it gives them hope. By the way it opens them up to new perspectives and changes them. I’m excited to have these conversations with some of the best conversationalists in our country – our young people.”

Jacqueline Woodson is the 2018-2019 National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. She received the 2018 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award and the 2018 Children’s Literature Legacy Award. She is the 2014 National Book Award Winner for her New York Times bestselling memoir Brown Girl Dreaming, which was also a recipient of the Coretta Scott King Award, a Newbery Honor, the NAACP Image Award and a Sibert Honor. In 2015, Woodson was named the Young People’s Poet Laureate by the Poetry Foundation. Her recent adult book, Another Brooklyn, was a National Book Award finalist. She is the author of more than two dozen award-winning books for young adults, middle graders and children; among her many accolades, she is a four-time Newbery Honor Winner, a four-time National Book Award finalist, and a two-time Coretta Scott King Award winner. Her books include The Other Side, Each Kindness, Caldecott Honor book Coming On Home Soon; Newbery Honor winners Feathers, Show Way, and After Tupac and D Foster; and Miracle’s Boys, which received the LA Times Book Prize and the Coretta Scott King Award. Jacqueline is also the recipient of the Margaret A. Edwards Award for lifetime achievement for her contributions to young adult literature and the winner of the Jane Addams Children’s Book Award. She lives with her family in Brooklyn, New York.
