Every June 11th people around the world wear a red cap in honor of Jacques Yves Cousteau, who inspired people of all ages to love and protect the ocean.

ManfishCap Rouge Day was first celebrated in 2010, on what would have been the 100th birthday of Jacques Cousteau. Jacques Yves Cousteau was probably the single most influential ocean personality during the last 100 years bringing the wonders, mysteries and fascination of the marine environment to the attention of a broad, world wide public.

Cap Rouge Day was first celebrated in 2010, on what would have been the 100th birthday of Jacques Cousteau. Jacques Yves Cousteau was probably the single most influential ocean personality during the last 100 years bringing the wonders, mysteries and fascination of the marine environment to the attention of a broad, world wide public. He has inspired generations of kids, divers, journalists, filmmakers, scientist’s even politicians through his films and series. As spectators of the expeditions we got to know what is out there and the stories made us curious for more and kindled passion for this silent world.

Share the life and work of Jacques Cousteau with your children. One of our favorite picture books is Manfish, A Story of Jacques Cousteau by Jennifer Berne, Illustrated by Éric Puybaret. Find more picture books about the beach, fish and other such things to share with your children in our archives.

Join fellow ocean organizations the World Ocean Network, Nausicaa, The World Ocean Observatroy, and the Lighthouse Foundation this year and wear a red cap for the ocean.
