United Way of Rhode Island, in partnership with Women United and Books Are Wings, is in the middle of its seventh annual Children’s Book Drive, taking place through May 31. This event unites local businesses, community partners, families, and individuals around a common goal —helping children read.

Learning to read is one of the most important predictors of a child’s academic success, but too many children struggle with this crucial milestone. Although having books at home helps create stronger readers and better students, many children live in homes without them.

In the past six years, the United Way has collected more than 164,769 books; books that are now in the homes of children across Rhode Island. You can help by donating your new/lightly used books, or by hosting a book drive for your neighborhood, work place, or faith community.
