Easy DIY Project: Tissue Box Tags

I love paper products and so my head is easily turned when even tissue boxes with festive holiday images appear on the shelves at Target. This year’s patterns are especially adorable and feature simple and cheerful motifs. So cute in fact, that I find myself unable to place them in the recycling bin. And that’s how this little project started.

Other uses:
Also makes a fun non-breakable ornament
Find baker’s twine at post-holiday clearance sales at stores like Crate & Barrel
Use this idea year-round for gift tags

Materials

  • Empty tissue box
  • Scissors
  • String, ribbon, baker’s twine
  • Hole punch
  • Glitter and glue or glitter pen

How-to
Collapse tissue box flat and roughly cut out any images you would like to use.
Trim image to desired shape. I like to trim the perimeter of the design, leaving a slight margin.
Punch a hole and insert string, ribbon or baker’s twine.
Add glitter using a glue pen and glitter or a glitter glue stick.
Write “To” and “From” on the reverse.

  • Not to be all, “I already did this before you told me to,” but last year I made some gift tags from the Trader Joe’s Green Tea with Peppermint boxes. Adorable polar bears. Of course mine were just hacked off with children’s scissors and taped to the package with masking tape. Your solution is much more elegant!

Anyway, I just wanted to recommend those boxes for cute cardboard art. The tea is drinkable too.

  • My favorite part of this is Elyse’s excitement about the cute new tissue boxes at Target. Glad they’re getting the recognition they deserve.
