Festival Ballet Providence returns for in person outdoor summer series

Festival Ballet Providence announced the Company’s return to the stage in a series of summer performances at a temporary outdoor venue located at its studios on Providence’s East Side. This exciting new summer performance series will present live, in-person daytime performances from June 10-27, 2021 with socially distanced seating. Tickets will go on sale on May 17, 2021 online or by phone.

Kathleen Breen Combes, Festival Ballet’s Director, said, “After a year of streaming archival footage and creating works for the computer screen, I’m thrilled we are able to bring back live performance featuring our professional company. You can feel the thrill and anticipation of being able to bring moving art back to our beloved community that we have missed so dearly.”  She added, “We hope this is the beginning of a new period of recovery, reimagination and the bright future we have ahead of us.”

The outdoor programs will include a mixed repertory program “Emergence,” a reimagining of the highly acclaimed black box series Up Close on Hope offering a range of works including a restaging of Artistic Curator Yury Yanowsky’s “Same” with live music from Josh Knowles, classical tidbits, and a new work by Eugenia Zinovieva. Additionally, our well-known family friendly program chatterBOXtheatre returns and will offer an imaginative and engaging story ballet for the whole family to enjoy. Festival Ballet will also use the space to offer outdoor movement classes and other collaborative opportunities for the community to enjoy in this new temporary outdoor venue.

This performance marks the first time Festival Ballet will perform for audiences from its Hope Street location since March, 2020. Breen Combes said, “We always knew that the arts would be critical to the healing of our community, and we are finally able to emerge and bring the beauty of live art and humanity back to the stage and to our audience.”

Performances will be located at 825 Hope St., Providence RI 02906. Further information will be available at festivalballetprovidence.org or by calling the box office at 401-353-1129.
