Happy Birthday L. Frank Baum!
Lyman Frank Baum (1856—1919) was the creator, along with illustrator W. W. Denslow, of one of the most popular books ever written in American children’s literature, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, better known today as The Wizard of Oz. This tale takes us to far away places and is filled with magic, friendship, love, courage, determination and of course the Yellow Brick Road and the Emerald City.
Robert Sabuda, a master Pop-op artist, created a beautiful commemorative Pop-up of this classic tale. In this book of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz you will be amazed at how the story comes to life. Watch the tornado twist and look at the Emerald City through 3D glasses.
The classic movie version of The Wizard of Oz brings back fond childhood memories. Watching Dorothy leave the gloomy black and white world of Kansas and land in the colorful Land of the Munchkins was magical to me.
Celebrate L. Frank Baum’s birthday today by reading the original story, watching the film or listening to Judy Garland sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow with your kids.
