Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the nation, but we are big on taste. Providence was recently voted one of the top four foodie cities by The Huffington Post – and this November we’ll prove it, as six of Rhode Island’s best candy shops and bakeries compete at the 2nd Annual Lollipop-a-palooza. The event challenges competitors to invent tasty and creative lollipop concoctions in order to raise funds for Familytopia’s “Charity of the Year.” This year’s funds will be awarded to Friend’s Way– Southern New England’s only group-based bereavement program for children who have lost a loved one close to them.
“The only direction we’ve given the competitors is ‘anything sweet on a stick.’ This is a great opportunity for them to get creative, while raising funds for an important cause. Last year’s competitors blew us away with their displays and concoctions; we can’t wait to see what this year’s competition has dreamed up.” Said Johanna Corcoran, event organizer and founder of Familytopia. “There will also be a little drama, as last year’s “Most Creative Lollipop” winner, Chocolate Dreams of Coventry, returns to defend their title. Their “Frosty and Friends” marshmallow pops took home top honors in last year’s competition.” Other businesses to compete include Scrumptions (East Greenwich), Sweet Cakes (Peace Dale), Emma’s Edibles (Warwick) and Sweet Twist (East Greenwich). Â
All ticket holders will have a chance to sample the lollipop entries and vote for the “People’s Choice” award. A panel of celebrity judges and event sponsors will choose the winners in the other two categories: “Tastiest” and “Most Creative.” Master of Ceremonies will be NBC10’s health reporter Barbara Morse Silva.
NOTE: Tickets must be ordered in advance and will not be available at the door. Tickets are $7.00 per person. For additional information, please contact Event Organizer, Johanna Corcoran at Johanna@myfamilytopia.com, or (401) 300-9656.
