Places to donate to help children this holiday season

With the holidays coming, we are all thinking about giving back to those less fortunate than us. There are many great local nonprofits doing important work helping children and below we offer a couple of these for your consideration.

St. Mary’s Home for Children: Based in North Providence but serving the mental health needs of all of Rhode Island, St. Mary’s offers residential services for children, therapy and other programs for children and adults, and a special education school. During the holidays, the agency provides presents for all of the hundreds of children it serves. You can help with that by making a cash donation or donating items. Visit this page for more information.  Please note that you must contact the agency before dropping off any donations to set up a specific date and time due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Edesia is a nonprofit organization in Rhode Island manufacturing life-saving foods for malnourished children, which international organizations like UNICEF and the World Health Organization distribute globally. For $50, you can purchase an entire box of its ready-to-eat foods like Plumpy’Nut (150 pieces) for a malnourished child in need and help save their life.  To donate, go to this page.

Family Service of Rhode Island: FSRI is seeking diaper donations for their COVID-19 Be Safe Program. Donations of any size help. If you think you, your company, or your community organization can help, contact Andrew Hutner at hutneran@familyserviceri.org or (508) 344-6699.

Know an organization seeking funds to do great work with children, let us know at susan@kidoinfo.com and we will consider adding it to our list.
