Providence Community Library (PCL) regrets that all nine PCL libraries will be closed during the week of September 10 — 15. Despite strong efforts by Mayor Taveras and the City Council, citywide budget cuts has reduced the city’s library funding by $205,000. This cut in funding has forced PCL to reduce library services.
PCL has very few ways to cut this much money from the budget. A one-year financial sacrifice by PCL staff members is allowing PCL to minimize library closures from what could have been 4 or 5 weeks to this one week.  Your verbal and written support to city leaders may help them make tough choices that could avoid closures in future years.
During the closed week:
- Your library materials will not be due.
- Reference questions can be answered by AskRI (401) 223-1200 askref@askri.org
- Other Public Libraries in Rhode Island are expected to maintain normal hours
The PCL staff looks forward to serving you again on September 17, 2012.
