Morning programs start at 7am and provide children with activities, breakfast and reliable transportation to school. Afternoon programs offer direct pick up from many locations. After school activities include daily access to homework assistance, in addition to providing children the opportunity to explore various aspects of technology, physical education, and the arts. School Age Child Care programs are fully licensed by the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF). Any parent who needs assistance will be happy to know that both Early Years Learning Centers accept payment from the Department of Human Services (DHS).

BrightStars is a free, voluntary program for licensed child care and early learning programs in Rhode Island. It recognizes quality and supports programs in their goals to improve quality. Programs can earn up to five stars. All programs participating in BrightStars exceed state licensing standards.

Some activities at the Mt. Hope Learning Center are on going, such as our one-on-one tutoring and homework help. Other classes are offered in twelve-week cycles, some of which repeat several times a year. Past offerings have included educational activities such as Slimy Science, Rock Climbing, Paper Maché, Sculpture, the Creatures of Narragansett Bay and Improvisational Theatre. We strive to excite children’s curiosity with visual, hands-on, project-based, and contextual learning activities, which motivate them to love learning. The 21st Century After School Program at MLK Elementary provides a safe environment for up to 140 elementary school children and also provides homework help, tutoring, academic enrichment, and physical and social activities such as sports clubs, Girl Scouts, book clubs, Jah-do, and chess!
