The Roger Williams Park Botanical Center opened in March 2007. Voted the “Best Urban Oasis” by the 2007 Editor’s Poll in Rhode Island Monthly magazine, it is the largest public indoor display gardens in New England encompassing approximately 12,000 square feet of indoor gardens. During a visit to the Botanical Center, relax by a waterfall, enjoy the wonderful fragrance of flowers from around the world, take a child on a scavenger hunt or bring a camera or sketch pad! Our displays change during the year so please come back to see something new!

With just a couple of exceptions, all of the animals carry out the zoo’s theme, “From the Berkshires to the Sea.” The focus is on the land- and water-based wildlife of Massachusetts, with special emphasis on creating the natural habitats in which the animals actually live.

Dubbed “the finest zoo in New England” by the Boston Globe. Explore this beautifully landscaped 40-acre zoo?–?one of the nation’s oldest?–?and encounter African elephants, Masai giraffes, zebras, red pandas, snow leopards, moon bears, gibbons, giant ant eaters, river otters and more in naturalistic settings. Open year-round 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (last admission at 3:30 p.m.). Adults $14.95, seniors $12.95, children ages 3 – 12 $9.95, children under three are free. Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Christmas Eve. Closes at 2 p.m. the last Saturday of June in preparation for the highly popular Zoobilee: Feast with the Beasts fundraiser. In 2012, the nationally acclaimed Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular runs evenings from October 4 – November 3.
NEW in 2012:
Animal Feedings offer an unforgettable up close experience! Giraffe feedings will begin on April 1 at 2 pm, and a bit later in the spring alternating seal and penguin feedings will be added at 11 am. Capacity for the feedings is limited and tickets ($20 per person) will be available on a first come, first served basis at Zoo admissions. Feedings will take place daily through Labor Day, and then weekends through October.
Hasbro’s Our Big Backyard featuring the CVS All Kids Can Treehouse opens in summer 2012. You and your family will enjoy the ultimate backyard play experience, one that is unique in New England.
Family Nights at the Zoo! Spend your day at the beach, and still have time to visit the Zoo during the cooler hours of the day. On the four Saturdays in August - the 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th - Zoo admission will remain open until 8 pm, so you can experience everything you can enjoy during the daytime during the sunset hours. The Zoo will close at 9 pm. What a magical memory to create for your family!
Education Programs:
Preschool Adventures at Roger Williams Park Zoo offers 90-minute programs for children age three to five, each accompanied by an adult. Each program focuses on a special animal or area of the zoo and presents opportunities for the adult/child pairs to make discoveries together. Programs include a lesson, activities and a craft. Members: $14 per child / Non-members: $24 per child. There are also a number of other programs and clubs for children 6 – 17, including the return of Scout Safari Day. 2012 Tadpole Academy and ZooCamp:
In February, April and summer, these camps offer fun-filled days at the Zoo for kids from age 4 through grade 5. What a great opportunity for kids to learn to explore the natural world! One mom said “My son learned that learning can be fun again! He was engaged and excited to learn new things.” Our pricing is more affordable than many other child-care options.
Restrictions /Age or Skill Requirements: Tadpole Academy (ages 4-5); ZooCamp (entering or in grades 1-5). Sessions/dates/times: Weekly summer sessions start Monday, June 18th and end Friday, August 24th. Tadpole Academy features half day sessions, 8:30 - 11:30 am and 12:30 - 3:30 pm. ZooCamp runs 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. Arrangements can be made for early drop off and late pick up.
Cost: Prices range from $140 per week to $240 per week, with discounts for RWP Zoo members. A $10 sibling discount applies to all ZooCamps! First registration will be at full price, $10 discount will be applied to each sibling thereafter (siblings must be registered within the same account).
