Some PPL Locations Will be Closed Due to Expected Extreme Heat

The following Providence Public Library (PPL) locations will be closed (Thursday, July 17 through Saturday, July 19, 2008) due to extreme heat conditions:

Knight Memorial Library, 275 Elmwood Avenue; 455-8102 (closed Thursday afternoon, Friday & Saturday)
Smith Hill Branch Library, 31 Candace Street; 455-8104 (closed Thursday afternoon & Friday)
Washington Park Branch, 1380 Broad Street; 455-8155 (closed Thursday, status unknown for Friday)

These locations are not equipped with air conditioning and subject to closure in extreme heat and unhealthy air conditions. The Library recommends patrons call ahead for exact open and closed times for each location during heat waves.

For those who wish to go to the Library to escape the heat, the following locations have air conditioning and are open with normally scheduled hours for:

• Central Library Branch, 150 Empire Street (10 am – 6 pm)

• Rochambeau Branch Library, 708 Hope Street (9:30 am – 6 pm)

• Mount Pleasant, 315 Academy Avenue (1 – 9 pm)

• Olneyville Branch Library, 1 Olneyville Square (9 am – 5:30 pm)

• Fox Point Branch Library, 90 Ives Street (1 – 8 pm)

• Wanskuck Branch Library 233 Veazie Street (1 – 6 pm)

• South Providence Branch Library (1 – 8 pm)
