This summer, Lippitt House Museum offers several programs for families in addition to their family-friendly tours. Kids can dance during the summer concert or enjoy a story time paired with a craft activity.

Open: May-October, noon- 4 pm, every Friday and the third Saturday of each month. Guided tours start on the hour at noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm.

Sarah Gardner has been performing for children in New England for more than ten years. Her CDs “Jazz for Babies” and “Jazz for Lil’ Jumpers” have won Parents Choice Awards. Educated at Berklee and Emerson, she brings a playful interactive spirit to learning through music. As a mother of two, she saw kids wanted to do more than simply watch concerts – they wanted to play along.

Third Saturdays are a great time for visitors of all ages to step into Providence’s Golden Age! Choose from an interactive guided tour or explore at your own pace on a self-guided tour. Docents share engaging stories of the people who lived and worked in the house, bringing to life this remarkable example of Victorian design and craftsmanship. Hands-on objects from the Museum’s teaching collection help younger visitors explore history firsthand. Pick up a Family Guide and follow the activities in each room.

Explore the 19th century through a children’s story and related hands-on craft activity on the third Thursday of each month. On June 21, read “Fiona’s Lace” and explore immigration to America. Then craft paper lace and decorate doilies. On July 19, read “Brave Girl: Clara and the Shirtwaist Makers’ Strike of 1909” and learn about manufacturing and labor. Then try your hand at paper weaving. On August 16, read “Iggy Peck, Architect” and imagine beautiful buildings. Then design and make your own cardboard house.
