Iraqi BoysDoing some spring cleaning and looking for a place to donate your kid’s gently used toys and stuffed animals? Consider sending toys to Iraq. I saw a post in Parent Hacks that explains how. Edmay Mayers, a member of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers who is currently stationed in Iraq, has taken on this mission to collect and distribute toys to children living in Iraq. Iraqi kids are not responsible for our current political situation, so why not help them play? My boys and I are going to start packing up a box of toys to send to Edmay. She is stationed in Iraq until November 2007 further notice and will accept donations as long as she is there.

Here is an update on sending Toys to Iraq from Parenthacks.com.

Edmay’s comrades are now accepting toys / stuffed animals for Iraqi children!
Michael (geologist from Buffalo, NY and a 20 year veteran of the Corps) and Natalie (archaeologist from Montana) plan to take over the Toys to Iraqi Kids Project. Edmay Mayers, the founder of the program, is coming home after a long tour in Iraq with the US Army Corps of Engineers. Keep those gently-used toys coming, and keep spreading the word!

    Now send toys to:

    Michael Fellenz or Natalie Sudman
    USACE-GRS
    APO-AE
    09331

  2. Edmay Mayers says:

To all: Natalie had to depart GRS suddenly so please send your items to either Frank DeBoer and/or Mike Fellenz at USACE – GRS, APO AE 09331

    Thanks and God bless you/Edmay

Read my later Kidoinfo post here http://kidoinfo.com/mailing-the-toys-to-the-iraqi-kids/
about packing up our toys and sending them to Iraq.

  4. Mike Fellenz says:

I am still in Iraq but in a different location (Mosul). I continue to accept toys, school supplies, soccer balls, anything and everything for the children of Iraq except for the following. No stuffed animals or clothing that are or depict pigs, they are considered forbidden by Muslim culture. No items that are too revealing (i.e., dolls that are scantily dressed or reveal too much) since they sway from the principles taught to practicing Muslims. We try and coordinate with the Mayors Cell here on-base and provide toys to the soldiers so they can also distribute the items on their missions outside the wire. Since this area is still considered somewhat hostile, it is difficult even for them to get too close to the children at times. We try and distribute the items a variety of ways so we don’t accumulate too many. Since we are close to the Kurdistan region and the security threat is minimal, we do distribute items there as well.

If there are any other questions you have I’d be more than willing to answer them at the following e-mail.

    michael.r.fellenz@usace.army.mil
