“Few companies captivate an audience like the Ailey dancers, whose soulful energy has dazzled audiences worldwide for over 50 years,” said Kathleen Pletcher, Executive Artistic Director, FirstWorks. “On May 10, this magnificent 30-dancer strong company will perform a program featuring Ailey’s signature masterpiece, Revelations, which uses African-American spirituals and holy blues to explore the places of deepest grief and utmost joy.”

Hailed by The New York Times as a “timeless tribute to humanity”, Revelations is a dance on land and in water, set as a suite in three sections–Pilgrim of Sorrow, Take Me to the Water and Move, Members, Move. Acclaimed as a must-see for all, this American classic brings audiences to their feet around the globe night after night in a joyous, universal celebration of the human spirit. The full-company program on May 10 also features Suite Otis, a tribute to the “King of Soul”, the late Otis Redding by choreographer George Faison; The Hunt, Artistic Director Designate Robert Battle’s powerful addition to the Ailey repertoire, showcasing the remarkable talents of the company’s male dancers; and Camille A. Brown’s The Evolution of a Secured Feminine, a witty, fast-footwork portrait set to the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Betty Carter and Nancy Wilson.
