Cirque du Soleil is gliding into Rhode Island with its coolest arena show yet – CRYSTAL! This one of a kind spectacular blends circus arts and the world of ice skating for the first time in Cirque du Soleil’s history. Journey into a whimsical frozen playground where figure skating, freestyle skating and extreme skating are combined with inventive acrobatics and aerial feats in this unique production! CRYSTAL will perform at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center from June 3rd-June 7th 2020 for 6 performances only.

THE STORY

Crystal, our eccentric heroine, takes you on an exhilarating tale of self-discovery as she dives into a world of her own imagination. Feel the adrenaline as she soars through this surreal world to become what she was always destined to be: confident, curious, and creative.

Just for Parents

Join us for our special Pages from a Book: Make a Heart Wreath Event where book lovers will be able to make a beautiful heart shaped wreath out of book pages. All materials will be supplied and you will be able to take your wreath home and hang it right away. No previous experience or crafting skills are necessary for this workshop. It is designed for beginners. Enjoy some adult beverages (non-alcoholic beverages available for those under 21 years old) and some sweet treats.
Space is limited, so reserve early by calling 432-7222.
Price is $25 per person which includes all materials, beverages & dessert.

Adventures in STEM during February School Vacation @ Museum of Natural History and Planetarium
Feb 15 – Feb 21 all-day

Saturday, February 15, – Friday, February 21, 2020
Experiment, tinker, build, observe, problem solve, explore and create with fun, hands-on activities at the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium throughout February vacation week. Science, technology, engineering and math are the focus during this week of family fun!

Special STEM Week Happenings:
10am-4pm: STEM Family Fun
Cost: Free with museum admission
Activities include: physics experiments with balance and motion, explore concepts of flight, test your engineering skill with a building challenge and special STEM museum quest.

1pm and 2pm: Flight Adventures Full Dome Planetarium Show
Cost: $3.00 per person/includes museum admission. Children must be age 4 and older to see a planetarium show.
Discover the science of flight through the eyes of a young girl and her grandfather as they explore how birds, kites, planes and models fly. Learn about the history and future plans of flight and how NASA is discovering new and safer ways to travel with the help of future engineers and aviators – like YOU! The program is followed by a brief tour of the night sky, using the planetarium’s Zeiss star projector. (General Audience)

Cost: Free with museum admission
Do you know the difference between weight and density? Do you know why some things sink and some things float? Join our educators for a hands-on exploration of these concepts.
1pm-4pm, Tuesday, February 18: Archaeology 101
Cost: Free with museum admission
Explore the science of archaeology with Brown University’s Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology! Get hands-on experience identifying and recording artifacts, try puzzling together broken pieces of pottery, and meet an archaeologist to learn what studying the past is all about.

Cali, Cranston Police Department Therapy Dog Special Storytime @ Barrington Books Garden City

Join us for our special guests Cali and Detective Michael Iacone from Cranston Police Department for a special storytime and meet and greet.

Cali is the state’s first comfort therapy dog to serve as a member of a Rhode Island police department, as well as the first resident canine at a hospital. Her police job is with the Cranston Police Department, and her hospital assignment will be at Hasbro.
Cali, an Australian Labradoodle, helps comfort children suspected of being abused and build their trust with investigators and physicians. Cali gives the children a buddy and a shoulder to lean on.

Discovery Tykes: Digging for Dinosaurs @ Museum of Natural History and Planetarium

Children, ages 2-4 with parent or caregiver, will investigate the world around them as they sing, dance and discover in this monthly series! Takes place the first Monday of each month, October through June, at 9:30am. Each session will contain age-appropriate stories, songs, poems and a craft related to the topic. Expose your preschool child to science and culture in a unique and stimulating museum setting!
Pre-registration preferred but drop-ins are welcome.
Programs will be ongoing throughout the year.
Class sizes are small, and registration is first-come, first-served.

each week verifying that your child has no fever or contagious illness.
2. On day one, we will decorate a collection and supply bag they will bring
with them each week.
3. Pencils, crayons, clipboards, modeling clay, chalk, and hand lenses will
be kept in this bag with your child’s name and are only for that child’s use.
($10 materials fee.)
4. Face masks worn at all times except when needing food or drink in
socially distant spaces.
5. Food and drink will not be shared and must be enjoyed in their assigned
hoop area.
6. Bug spray and sunblock must be applied before camp by home caregiver.
7. Hula hoops with your child’s name will designate their activity area and
the supplies your child uses during activities.
8. All equipment and materials will be sanitized between uses.
