IRS to hold free virtual Advance Child Tax Credit information sessions

The IRS Stakeholder Liaison office is holding free Advance Child Tax Credit information sessions for Rhode Islanders to learn about the Advance Child Tax Credit, according to the Economic Progress Institute.

Unlike the regular Child Tax Credit, there are no earnings requirement and the amounts are higher – and based on the age of the child.

Here’s the breakdown for the new CTC amounts:
* $3,600 for children ages 5 and under at the end of 2021
* $3,000 for children aged 6 – 17 at the end of 2021

Beginning July 2021 the monthly payments are:
* $300 for children ages 5 and under
* $250 for children aged 6 – 17.

You claim the rest of the credit when you file your 2021 tax return in 2022.
