RI Festival of Children’s Books & Authors at the Lincoln School in Providence and the Central Falls Library Unite to Inspire Local Youth

We are a book loving family–at home and at Kidoinfo. We look froward to The Rhode Island Festival of Children’s Books and Authors every year. And we are obviously not alone. Thousands of people come to this festival, hosted by Lincoln School in Providence, each year to meet acclaimed authors and illustrators from all corners of the country.

New this year, through a collaboration with the Central Falls Library, a Book Festival author will host a children’s event at the Central Falls Library.  In addition, Lincoln School students will organize a used book drive for the library. The goals are to introduce children to the library who have never been there before, and to collect as many books as possible for the Central Falls community.

This year’s impressive roster of writers, includes: Pam Munoz Ryan, who has written over 30 books for young readers, Where’s Walrus author Stephen Savage, cartoonist Harry Bliss, Rhode Island Children’s Book Award winner Tom Angleberger, author of the New York Times bestselling Origami Yoda series, and Rhode Island’s own Chris Van Allsburg, world-renowned author and illustrator of The Polar Express.

Young readers and their parents will have the chance to meet and talk with the authors, have their books personally signed, participate in bookmaking and other crafts, and view a special performance. The Festival–to be held on Saturday, October 13 at Lincoln School in Providence–celebrates the unique joy that can only be found by opening the pages of a book.

“This event brings literature to life not only for our students, but for students across Rhode Island and neighboring Massachusetts–we’ve even had people come from as far as New Jersey to take part in the day,” says Meagan Lenihan, Lower School Librarian at Lincoln School. “Our goal is to inspire a love of reading and books that will last a lifetime.”
